Roof Snow and Ice Removal

Starting in late November to March, we can safely say that winter is the longest of our four seasons and when the snow hits, it can quickly become dangerous and unsafe to navigate around your home or business. At Royal Peaks Roofing, we are highly specialized in professional roof snow and ice removal service across Brantford and surrounding area to ensure your property is safe for you, your family and customers. Our team is equipped with the latest tools and techniques to efficiently clear the elements from your roof so you can go about your day, regardless of how severe the snowstorm maybe.

Our Work

After a severe snow storm, accumulation can weigh anywhere for a couple of pounds to twenty or more pounds per cubic foot, regardless of where it falls. On a roof top, that can really add up during a larger storm. On a very old or damaged roof, or low-slope pitched roof, this can be a disaster waiting to happen.

We can tell you first hand that accumulated snow can wreak havoc on your home or business in multitude of ways. This includes leaks coming into the building, part of or the entire roof collapsing and can even cause carbon dioxide poisoning to those inside of the structure if not treated quickly.

This would be precisely the time our snow removal service would be most beneficial. Optimally, we start before the winter season hits and perform a pre-season inspection to learn of the most efficient and expedited way to remove the accumulation from any and all parts of the roof. We’ll take an in-depth look at all aspects of your location to find any spots where you have units that require special attention.

Once we’ve completed our inspection, we will provide you with all necessary details, such as items that need to be repaired before bad weather comes our way. Even a small snowfall won’t be good for a part of your roof that is already compromised, with a larger storm potentially exasperating existing issues.

Ice Dam Removal

Royal Peaks Roofing has removed snow and ice from roof tops for three decades. Particularly troublesome are ice dams, which form at the edge of a roof, particularly along the eaves and in gutters, preventing melting snow from draining properly. This blockage can cause water to back up and potentially leak into the home, damaging walls, ceilings, insulation and other areas.

When an ice dam forms, snow melts from the upper portions of the roof and gradually trickles down. Once the water reaches the eavestroughs the temperature along your roof falls below freezing and a roof hazard forms. From that point, more water from melting snow will pool behind the dam and will eventually cause your shingles to rise and water seep into the building.

Ice dams can actually damage your roof to the point where leaking can occur and cause you to have high repair costs than can strain your budget. Putting off ice dam removal service can even cause structural damage and potential cave in.

How to Get Snow off a Roof

When it comes to removing snow, we use a number of tools designed specially for the purpose. As we do on ground level, we are able to use a sturdy to remove the bulk load of heavier snowfalls off of a roof. We also use snow rakes on the market, which resemble a garden how than a literal rake, and that quite effective when removing snow as long as you can hit the solid roof below the accumulation.

The larger the roof, the more tools we have. These include snow melting mats that can be easily applied after the fact to literally turn accumulation into water that can just flow down, as long as the gutters are clean.

Depending on the square footage of your roof and other related complexities, removing the snow can be one of the more time-consuming aspects of the entire process. But we’ll already account for that since we’ll have roof schematics from any pre-season assessment.

How to Remove Ice Dams

If you hire us for our pre-season inspection, our experts will determine where ice dams may accumulate the most based on the path of the sun compared to the building we’re taking care of along with any slopes that your roof may have. This assessment will give us a plan of attack on how to remove the ice dams.

There’s a tool we use called an ice dam steamer that heats up water & coils using a kerosene burner to turn it into steam. From there, the steam goes through a hose that goes up to the roof where one of our professionals can use the tool to melt through & under the ice dam. As a result, the ice dam will loosen from the roof & gutters to easily remove them.

If you’re concerned that this steamer will damage the shingles or any other aspect of the roof, you won’t need to worry since the low pressure of the steam only channels the heat towards melting through the ice without doing any harm to the structural integrity & the aesthetic of your roof.
